NEW YORK – Columbia senior Garrett Ryan was selected for the NWCA All-Star Classic over the first weekend of November at Princeton.
The All-Star Classic gets under way at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, with a full lineup of men’s and women’s dual matches scheduled to take place. Ryan is slated to take on Lock Haven’s Thomas Haines in the heavyweight bout.
A season ago, Ryan was at the top of the podium after the 2017 EIWA Championships, defeating Drexel’s Joey Goodhart 7-3 en route to the title. Ryan qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third time in his career, winning his first match of the tournament back in March.
Over the summer, the Scottsdale, Arizona, native impressed at the University Nationals in Akron, Ohio. Competing for the NYC RTC in the 125 kg freestyle bracket, Ryan dominated his way to a championship, winning six matches by a combined score of 59-8. The senior won his final match by a 14-4 margin against Michael Hughes from Hofstra (Blue & Gold RTC).
This Saturday, Ryan and the Lions can be seen prior to the Homecoming Football game on Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Field in an open practice that gets under way at 10 a.m. and concludes at noon.
