NEW YORK – The No. 15 ranked Columbia men’s tennis team led 3-0 against No. 32 Dartmouth, but could not complete the win as the Big Green escaped the Dick Savitt Tennis Center with a 4-3 victory. The loss for the Lions moves today’s home team to 3-1 in Ivy League play, which is half of a match behind Dartmouth at 4-1.

Columbia appeared strong at the forefront, winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Adam Ambrozy and Michal Rolski got by the Roko Glasnovic/Casey Ross pair, 6-3, before Austen Huang and Jackie Tang sealed it with a 6-4 win over Peter Conklin and Max Fleigner.

The Lions led 2-0 when Huang cruised to a singles victory over Conklin, 6-3, 6-0. The score moved to 3-0 and Columbia was on the brink when William Matheson defeated Ciro Riccardi, 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 5 match.

With four singles matches remaining, everything was still very much in the air as Dartmouth was up a set in three of the matches.

The Big Green got one point back in the No. 2 match, as Tang fell to David Hornefer, 7-6 (1), 6-2. Shortly thereafter, the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 matches all went to a third set.

Broom then defeated No. 18 Victor Pham in the top bout by a 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3 tally, making it 3-2. In the No. 4 match, Dartmouth’s Fleigner topped Ambrozy, 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-4, which put all eyes on the third court.

Dartmouth’s Dan Martin dropped the first set to Columbia’s Jack Lin at No. 3 singles, but came back to take the second. In the third set, the Big Green first-year held on to preserve a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-0 win, and give Dartmouth a 4-3 victory.

Next weekend, the Lions travel to Brown and Yale for a pair of matches on Saturday and Sunday.
