NEW YORK – The Columbia volleyball team recently announced the team’s 2011 season schedule. The schedule will feature several top-tier teams in the country, including Wisconsin, Memphis, Boston College and Iowa. 

The season will kick off for the Lions in San Francisco, as the team will take part in the University of San Francisco Tournament. At that tournament, spanning September 2 and 3, Columbia will take on Memphis, Providence and host San Francisco. The Lions will continue on the road to the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, where they will take part in the URI tournament. There, Columbia will face host URI, Wisconsin and Boston College. 

The Lions will then return home to Levien Gymnasium for the home opener of the 2011 season, a part of the 2011 Columbia Invitational. Columbia will host local rivals Binghamton and St. John’s, along with Big Ten opponent Iowa, Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. 

Columbia will then open the Ivy League season on the road with rival Cornell, Saturday, September 24 at 5 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y., before heading to Providence and New Haven, to take on Brown and Yale the following weekend. 

The Lions will have their home Ivy League opener against Princeton, Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m., and continue with the regular Ivy League slate from there, hosting each team and playing each on the road as well.
