2012 ASICS University National All-Americans

AKRON, Ohio – Columbia rising senior Jake O'Hara earned All-America honors at the ASICS University Nationals held May 31 through June 3 at the University of Akron.

O’Hara, competing for New York Athletic Club, took seventh place in the 70 kg Freestyle division. He started the tournament with wins over Josh Kreimier of Falcon Training (5-0, 1-0), Shonhei Takagi of Patriot Elite (6-0, 3-2) and Ameer Al-Gharib of Cliff Keen Wrestling (3-3, 5-0). A 5-1, 3-0 loss to Brad Dolezal of Minnesota State sent O’Hara to the consolation bracket.

After a 2-1, 3-0 win over Kreimier in the consolation bracket, O’Hara lost to Kyle Bradley of Missouri, 3-0, 2-1. In the seventh-place match, O’Hara defeated Lex Ozias of NRV Mat Club by a score of 1-0, 4-4, 2-2.

O’Hara is coming off a breakout junior year in 2011-12. Competing at 157 pounds, O’Hara went 30-16 on the season and led the Lions with 10 major decision victories. He earned an NCAA Championships auto-bid when he placed fifth at the EIWA Championships. At the NCAAs, O’Hara advanced to the second day of competition and posted a 2-2 record with wins over Albert White of Oklahoma State and David Bonin of Northern Iowa.

Ten other Lions competed at the ASICS University Nationals in the freestyle brackets. Matt Bystol and Ryan Ponte competed at 66 kg. Jake Kazimir competed at 70 kg. Tommy Di Vitantonio, Adam Fondale and Josh Houldsworth competed at 74 kg. Stephen West at 84 kg. Matt Idelson, Nick Mills and Austin Akins competed at 96kg.
