LAS VEGAS – Columbia wrestling was well represented at the FILA Junior National Championships and the ASICS/Las Vegas Senior Open with four student-athletes and assistant coach Adam Hall each placing.

In the freestyle portion of the FILA Juniors, Johnson Mai, Troy Hembury and Markus Scheidel all finished as placewinners. Hembury earned fourth place in the 96 KG (211.5 lbs.), while Mai (55 KG, 121.25 lbs.) and Scheidel (70 KG, 154.25 lbs.) each claimed sixth.

Scheidel also competed in the Greco-Roman portion of the FILA Juniors, finishing in fourth place. Also taking the mat in the Greco-Roman portion of the tournament was Joe Moita at 63 KG (138.75 lbs.). Moita defeated Anthony McHugh in the fifth-place match with a 4-0 decision.  

Assistant coach Adam Hall competed in the 65 KG (143 lbs.) freestyle event at the Senior Open, coming away with a seventh-place finish after posting a 10-3 decision over Hunter Stieber.

All five will move on to compete in Phase 1 of the World Team Trials in Madison, Wis. at the Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center May 31-June 1.
