Brackets | Day One Story

EVANSTON, Ill. - After advancing to the second day of competition at the Midlands Championships, Garrett Ryan and Tyrel White were eliminated having dropped their second matches of the tournament.

White wrestled first for the Lions, competing against North Dakota's Andrew Fogarty. White was unable to overcome Fogarty, dropping a 14-1 match for his second loss of the tournament. The day before, the Columbia junior won his first three bouts of the day, advancing to the quarterfinal round.

Ryan earned two points with a takedown of Northwestern's Conan Jennings in the first round, but Jennings twice earned nearfall points in the third to overtake Ryan, 10-2. The result came a day after Ryan picked up a trio of victories.

Up next, Columbia will take on Buffalo in a dual on Friday, Jan. 7, before wrestling at Binghamton the following day.
