Cross Country Competes In Iona Meet of Champions in Van Cortlandt Park

BRONX, N.Y. - The Columbia men's and women's cross country teams each fielded seven-member teams in Saturday's Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. The Columbia men took fifth and the Lions' women placed eighth out of their respective 19-team fields.

In the 222-runner men's 8K race, Columbia sophomore Joe Kotran led the Lions with a 16th-place showing, finishing at 25:47.46.  Freshman Nate Brennand posted a 24th-place finish with a time of 26:05.15. Senior Andy Buchanan took 30th, clocking a 26:14.82.

In the women's 6K, sophomore Chlesea Carrick was the Lions' top finisher in the 202-runner field, placing 21st with a time of 23:14.81. Freshman Anne Carey was not far behind, taking 27th with a time of 23:30.14. Junior Irene Kalbian clocked a 23:37.41 to take 33rd and sophomore Laura Vigilante finished 42nd at 23:51.43.

The Columbia women will next compete in the Toledo Inter-Regional Bubble Buster on Friday in Toledo, Ohio. The Lions' men's team will be back in action on Sept. 30 when it competes in the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
