LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Columbia men's cross country team capped a sensational season on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the NCAA National Championships with a 17th-place overall finish in the 31-team field. For the first time in program history, the Lions posted a top-20 finish on the nation's biggest stage with a team total of 439 points.
On their way to a historic performance, Columbia defeated perennial powers Georgia, Oregon, and Northeast regional winner Iona in the 10k-race. Senior Mark Feigen led the way for the Lions with a 61st overall finish crossing the line at 30:25.8. Next for Columbia was junior Jacob Sienko (74th, 30:30.9) giving the Lions two runners in the top-100.
Senior Mike Murphy completed his career with 100th-place finish at 30:43.2. Not too far behind was senior Leighton Spencer (157th, 31:10.3) and sophomore Daniel Everett (168th, 31:17.3) in the 245 runner field.
