Cross Country Competes at Iona Meet of Champions

NEW YORK – Members of both the men’s and women’s Columbia cross country teams took part in the Iona Meet of Champions Saturday, on familiar turf at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Both teams fared well against strong competition from across the country.

The women’s team finished fifth out of 18 teams, led by sophomore Noelle Van Rysselberghe, who finished eighth overall in 22:23. Alexandra Crawley and Samantha Casale Lee were the next two across the line for the women’s team, coming in at 28th and 24th respectively.

The men’s team came in eighth overall, out of 19 teams. Senior Dustin Martin set the tone for the Lions, coming in eighth overall, with a time of 25:27. He was followed by Patrick DeSabato in 27th (26:01) and Adam Behnke in 44th (26:14).

Up next for both the men and women teams is the prestigious Paul Short Classic, which will be used as a measuring stick for the team heading into Pre-Nationals. The Lions will head down to Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, October 1, with the first race slated to begin at 11 a.m.
