NEW YORK – The Columbia men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at one of the season’s most competitive and prestigious meets Friday, as they took part in the Paul Short Classic in Bethlehem, Pa.
The men’s team finished seventh out of 42 teams, while the women placed fifth out of 41 teams.
For the women, sophomore Caroline McDonough led the way for the Lions, finishing 13th overall in 20:48. Senior Jacqueline Drouin came in next in 29th place, in 21:17, leading a pack of five Columbia runners, who all cross the finish line within the same minute.
On the men’s side, senior Thomas Poland and Anthony Merra led the way for Columbia. The men also ran in a pack, with all six of the top runners coming in within 30 seconds.
Up next for the Lions is the annual Metropolitan Championships, held in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, Friday, October 8.
