Men's Cross Country Remains In Top 10 For Second Week

NEW ORLEANS - For the second straight week, the Columbia men’s cross country team have earned a top-10 ranking in the Division I NCAA USTFCCCA National Poll announced on Tuesday, Oct. 22. After facing its biggest challenge this season at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 19, the Lions put on a strong among the nation’s best teams to garner a No.10 ranking in this week’s national poll.

With 261 points in the men’s 8k race in Madison, Wis., Columbia finished in sixth place in a 36 team field that included 19 of last week’s NCAA USTFCCCA top-30 ranked teams. The Lions defeated a slew of top-15 opponents, including No. 6 Arkansas, No. 10 Princeton, No. 11 Syracuse, No. 13 North Carolina and No. 15 Texas. Columbia finished behind No. 3 Northern Arizona who grabbed the win with 121 points.  No. 5 BYU posted a runner-up finish with 174 points, followed by No. 7 Portland (third, 216 points), No. 20 Wisconsin (fourth, 217 points) and No. 25 New Mexico (fifth place, 252 points).

With a No. 10 national ranking, Columbia stands the highest in the Ivy League. The Lions still remain a top the Northeast Regional rankings, holding the top spot for the second consecutive week.

This strong squad will look to carry its leading momentum into the 2013 Ivy League Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. in Princeton, N.J.
