SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Columbia men’s tennis team has been ranked No. 42 nationally, as announced by the ITA on Jan. 2.
The Lions are the second-highest ranked Ivy League team, trailing only Harvard, who will begin the year ranked No. 27.
Leading the charge for Columbia is junior Winston Lin, who will begin 2014 ranked No. 8 in the nation. Lin came away with the ITA Northeast singles title, back on Oct. 22, downing Harvard’s Denis Nguyen in three sets. Junior Ashok Narayana is also ranked nationally, entering the poll at No. 125.
Narayana and doubles partner Max Schnur are also ranked among the nation’s elite in doubles, coming in at No. 14. The duo capped a historic fall when it upset the No. 1 ranked doubles team of Mikelis Libietes and Hunter Reese from Tennessee in straight sets to win the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, the first national collegiate crown in program history.
The Lions will begin the spring season on Jan. 20, with visits from Monmouth and Marist at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
