Men's Tennis Heads to Georgia for ITA Kick-off Weekend

ITA Kick-off Weekend Central | Live Results

New York- The No. 43 men’s tennis team will head down to Athens, Ga. this weekend for the ITA Kick-off Weekend at the University of Georgia. The Lions will face No. 3 Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 25 and either No. 36 Washington or No. 40 Stanford on Sunday, Jan. 26.

The Lions started the spring season off on a high note, taking both matches in their doubleheader against Marist and Monmouth on Monday, Jan. 20. No. 8 Winston Lin and No. 125 Ashok Narayana took their singles matches in straight sets. Columbia also took all the doubles matches for the day including two wins for No. 14 Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur.

No. 3 Georgia goes into the weekend with five ITA-ranked singles players including four in the top-50, and two ITA top-60 doubles pairs.  No. 12 Austin Smith and No. 21 Nathan Pasha both went undefeated at the MLK Invitational at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. this past weekend. Pasha claimed the singles title for the event after going 3-0. Neither Smith nor Pasha has lost a match since November.  No. 12 doubles pair Ben Wagland and Hernus Pieters claimed the Division I Southern Intercollegiate doubles title for the fall season.

The No. 36 Washington Huskies will be flying east looking to gain back some traction after dropping a 5-2 decision to No. 12 Pepperdine on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and barely defeating UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 18.  The Huskies are currently 2-1 for the spring season.

No. 40 Stanford started off the spring season with a 6-1 win over No. 41 University of the Pacific. Over the long MLK weekend, the Cardinal competed in the Sherwood Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif. where Stanford’s John Morrissey and Maciek Romanowicz claimed the doubles title, playing together for the first time.
