ATHENS, Ga.- No. 43 Columbia men’s tennis swept No. 36 Washington on Sunday, Jan. 26 in Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility at the University of Georgia for the consolation match of the ITA Kick-off Weekend, 4-0.

The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, taking the doubles point in just 24 minutes. Richard Pham and Dragos Ignat quickly took down Washington’s Michael Charmerski and Wendell Watanabe, 6-1. Winston Lin and Mike Vermeer clinched the doubles point shortly after, defeating Viktor Farkas and Max Manthou, 6-2.

In singles play, No. 125 Ashok Narayana extended the Lions lead to 2-0 with a victory over Gal Hakak, 6-4, 6-5 (7-0) in the No. 3 match. Playing in the No. 1 match, No. 8 Winston Lin took down Max Manthou in straight sets, but it was Max Schnur who clinched the win for Columbia in the No. 4 match. Schnur dropped the first set to Jeff Hawke, but came back to take the next two in decisive fashion.

The Lions will return home to take on No. 64 Georgia State this Friday, Jan. 31 at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center starting at 2 p.m.
