NEW YORK – The 19th-ranked Columbia men’s tennis team improved to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League with a 4-0 triumph over Dartmouth Sunday at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.

Columbia got out to an early lead, wining the doubles point. Winston Lin and Mike Vermeer  picked up an 8-5 victory against Diego Pedraza and Chris Kipouras in the No. 3 match to get the Lions halfway there. Bert Vancura and Richard Pham clinched the doubles point for the Lions with an 8-5 win in the No. 2 match against Brandon DeBot and Dovydas Sakinis.

Dragos Ignat made it a 2-0 Lions lead in singles action, quickly dispatching of DeBot in the No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-2. Vancura also posted a successful 6-1 first set in the No. 5 match against Pedraza, and then secured the win with a 6-3 second set.

The match-clinching point came from Vermeer in the No. 6 match. Going up against Brendan Tannenbaum, Vermeer edged out a 6-4 first set win and the cruised to a 6-2 second set victory. The remainder of the singles matches were unfinished after the Lions secured the win.

Columbia will hit the road next, taking on Brown and Yale next weekend.
