ATHENS, Ga. – Men’s tennis player Winston Lin has advanced to the Round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championships, defeating No. 43 Nick Chappell from TCU in the opening round.

Lin, the 17th-ranked player in the nation, took an early lead in the match, capturing the first set, 6-2. He then closed out the match with a comfortable second set score of 6-1.

For Lin, the Round of 32 on Thursday will be a rematch of the NCAA Tournament match from two weeks ago when the Lions faced Vanderbilt. The Commodores’ Gonzales Austin won his opening round match against Penn State’s Leonard Stakhovsky, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to the next round. Lin won the first meeting between the two in epic fashion, coming back after dropping the first set, 2-6, to win the final two, 6-3, 6-4, clinching the 4-3 victory for Columbia over Vanderbilt.

Thursday’s action will also see the doubles tournament get underway, as Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur will be in action on the men’s side, while Tina Jiang and Crystal Leung will represent the women.
