SKILLMAN, N.J. – Columbia men’s tennis duo Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur were among a collection of the best collegiate tennis players from the 2013-14 season as the pair was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2014 ITA All-Star Team, the organization announced this morning.
The all-star team, which was inaugurated in 1984, features the nation’s top-ranked men’s and women’s players from the year-end ITA College Tennis Rankings at the NCAA Division I, II and II, NAIA and Junior and Community College levels, as well as winners of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and 2014 NCAA Division I Championships.
Narayana and Schnur helped the Lions to a history book season as Columbia not only made the NCAA Championships, but made the deepest run in program history to the Sweet Sixteen. The tandem aided to Columbia’s 22-2 record and its 11th Ivy League title. Last fall, Narayana and Schnur captured the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, the first major title in Columbia history. During the spring slate, the twosome, who was ranked 11th by the ITA, partnered for 11 wins with a perfect 5-0 record in Ancient Eight action at the Lions top spot en route to All-Ivy League first team honors.
The classmates open their final campaign on the court in Columbia Blue Sept. 19-21 at the Ivy Plus Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey.
