NEW YORK - The Columbia men's tennis team will play host to nine schools this weekend as the Columbia Classic gets underway Friday, October 4 at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
In addition to the Lions, the 10-team field will feature: Dartmouth, Fairfield, Fordham, Fairleigh Dickinson, Marist, Monmouth, NJIT, St. John's and UTA.
This is the third tournament during the fall season for Columbia. The Lions won the top flight in both singles and doubles at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational to open the season. Dragos Ignat had a strong start to the year with victories in both singles and doubles. In singles action, Ignat won the A flight over Tom Colautti of Princeton, and his success continued with a B flight doubles win with partner Bert Vancura. No. 54 Winston Lin and first-year Miguel Alda were also winners in A flight doubles, defeating Zach McCourt and Dan Davies of Princeton, 8-7(4) in the Orange flight event.
The following weekend at the Ivy Plus Invitational, Lin continued his dominance with a win at the top flight to take home the singles title.
Play at the Columbia Classic begins Friday and will continue through Sunday.
