New York- No. 24 Columbia men’s tennis plays their first of three matches in Texas today, March 18, starting with the SMU Mustangs. On Thursday, March 20, they will head to Fort Worth to take on TCU and will finish the week in Arlington on Saturday, March 22, playing UT-Arlington.

The Lions will look to extend their win streak into double-digits with the match today. No. 12 Winston Lin remains undefeated for the season, while Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur remain in the doubles top-15 of the ITA rankings at No. 12.  The pair has held down the No. 1 doubles position for the Lions all season.

The SMU Mustangs are 9-7  and will try to extend their own winning streak to four.  Although they do not have any ranked players, the Mustangs have won their last three matches in decisive fashion, only giving up one point during the stretch. The Mustangs have struggled with ranked teams this season, dropping all five matches.

On Thursday, the Lions will face the TCU Horned Frogs. The No. 43 Horned Frogs have an 8-5 record on the year, but have struggled to string together wins in the past few weeks. The only ranked singles player, No. 54 Nick Chappell, is currently on a five-match losing streak. Chappell is also part of the No. 13 doubles pair with teammate Will Stein. Together the two are 6-4 for the season.

Capping off the Lions’ Texas trip will be a match at UT-Arlington. The Mavericks are 5-8 on the season and boast just one ranked doubles pair. No. 55 Carlos Arbiza and Javier Perez are 7-3 for the year and have won their last two matches. For the singles, UT-Arlington seems to be strongest at the no. 3, 4, and 5 positions, which are all over .580 in 2014.
