NEW YORK, N.Y. - Junior Kacie Johnson scored a hat trick as the Columbia women's lacrosse team fell to 14th-ranked Princeton, 18-6, on Wednesday, March 21 at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.
Johnson scored three goals on five shots, added an assist, and scooped up four ground balls in the loss. Senior Taylor Gattinella, sophomore Paige Cuscovitch, and sophomore Ashley Rinere each scored a goal for the Lions, now 1-5, 0-3 Ivy League. Gattinella won four draw controls, while Cuscovitch joined with three draw controls. Senior Amanda Goodhart caused three turnovers and first-year Skylar Dabbar tallied eight saves in the net.
Princeton began the game strong scoring the first four goals of the game, led by Erin McMunn who put in two goals and assisted on the first. Columbia responded at 19:02 with a goal from Johnson off the assist from Gattinella, to put the Lions on the board 4-1.
The Tigers responded by turning up the offensive charge scoring five unanswered goals to push the lead to 8-1 at 9:40 in the first half. After a goal from Rinere at 7:55 and another from Cuscovitch at 1:22, the Lions trailed 9-3 at the break.
Gattinella opened the second half with a score for the Lions in the first four minutes at 26:32. The Tigers quickly marched down the field for a score at 25:57 by Cassie Pyle. The Lions retaliated with a goal from Johnson at 24:46 in the second half to cut the lead to 10-5 for a Columbia push. The Princeton offense proved to be too much, outscoring Columbia 9-3 in the half to capture a 18-6 victory.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, March 24 as they travel to Hanover, N.H. to face Ivy League foe Dartmouth at 12 p.m.
