NEW YORK - Paige Cuscovitch scored three goals despite a 15-6 loss at home to Albany on Wednesday, April 17 at Robert K. Kraft Field in non-conference action. The Lions faced a high-powered offense that saw six different players score for the Great Danes and a playmaker in Rachel Burek who tallied five assists.
In the opening five minutes of play, Cuscovitch scored the first goal of the game as the Lions got on the scoreboard off the quick free-position shot. Albany’s Araina Parker sparked her team’s offense with three unanswered goals to give the Great Dane’s an early 3-1 lead at 21:14. Kelly Beuchel ended the run with a score just one minute later and Kacie Johnson responded to another Albany goal with a shot to the back of the net at 17:41, to keep the Lions within one point at 3-4.
With16 minutes remaining in the first half, the Albany offense put together an attack that outscored Columbia 6-1 to close the half. Cuscovitch scored her second goal in the half on her way to a hat trick, but the Lions trailed 10-4 at the break.
After the first goal of the second half went to Columbia off the Johnson goal at 17:02, Albany rekindled its aggressive attack and strung together five unanswered goals through ten minutes of play. Cuscovitch posted her fourth hat trick of the season with a goal at 3:02 remaining in the game to end the Columbia drought. The Lions closed out its four-game home stand with a15-6 loss to Albany and drop to 2-11 on the season.
