  - This weekend, the Columbia women’s lacrosse team will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Cornell on Saturday, March 8 at 3 p.m. The Lions will play its second straight Ivy League opponent in the Big Red to begin a four-game road swing.

On the first day of March, Columbia kicked off the Ivy League season with a tough home game against Brown on a cold day at Robert K. Kraft Field. Despite the 9-6 loss, Paige Cuscovitch led the Lions with four goals for her first hat trick of the season. First-year Taylor Quinn was impressive with two goals of her own and an aggressive seven draw controls.

In the latest Ivy League Weekly performance release on March 4, another pair of Lions earned a selection on the honor roll with solid performances against Brown last Saturday. Behind a team-high four goals and three ground balls, Cuscovith received her first weekly honor this season. Quinn posted a game-high eight ground balls, seven draw controls, and a couple goals to also give the first-year her first weekly honor.


Through two games, Quinn leads the nation in ground balls per game with an average 5.50. She leads the team with a total of 11 ground balls and 14 draw controls.

With four goals by Cuscovitch in the Lions’ second game this season against Brown last weekend, the senior captain became the eighth Columbia player this season to post a hat trick. Seven Lions scored three goals or more in the season opening victory over LIU Brooklyn. Ashley Rinere and Jessie Ambrose both scored four goals, first-year Taylor Quinn posted a hat trick in her first 30 minutes of collegiate play and sophomores Kate Murphy and Magaret Sinzer both found the back of the net for a trio of goals.

The Big Red will play their first home game, since their season opener against Temple last month, on this upcoming Saturday afternoon. After a 15-7 win at Colgate on Wednesday night, Cornell improved to 2-1 overall. Both teams will look for its first conference win of the season with 0-1 Ivy League starts. The offense is led by first team All-Ivy League selection, Lindsay Toppe who has team-high eight points through three games.
