PGCBL PROSPECTS RANKINGS

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) recently announced its top-40 prospects with Columbia catcher Mike Fischer coming in ranked 25th.

Fischer was the top ranked catcher on the list following a very successful summer with the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. Fischer, who earned MVP honors at the PGCBL All-Star Game after his second inning home run gave the East Division the lead, posted an impressive .993 fielding percentage after committing just one error the entire summer. That fielding percentage was tops in the league among all players with at least 15 chances.

A characteristic of Fischer’s game that Columbia fans are very familiar with, is his ability to throw out base runners, something he continued with Mohawk Valley. Of the 28 attempted base stealers, Fischer sent 12 back to the dug out, the highest total in the PGCBL.

Fischer, a Scotia, N.Y. native, returns to Morningside Heights for his senior year looking to lead the Lions to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. He is one of numerous upperclassmen that returns from a team that won the first NCAA Tournament game in program history this past spring.
