Columbia rising juniors Tim Giel and Dario Pizzano have had remarkable summer league seasons and each garnered postseason accolades in their respective leagues.

Giel, who is on the Green Bay Bullfrogs in the Northwoods League, made the Northwoods Postseason All-Star team after earning a nod in the midseason All-Star game.

The right-handed Giel owns a 7-3 record a 2.33 earned run average in 12 starts for the Bullfrogs in the highly competitive wooden bat league.  In 69 2/3 innings pitched, Giel has allowed 62 base hits and 22 walks with 44 strikeouts.

Giel will take the ball in game two of the Bullfrogs' divisional playoff series against the Battle Creek Bombers on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Pizzano was named first team All-NECBL after an impressive summer season. The sweet-swinging lefty batted .340 with four home runs and 30 runs batted in for the North Shore Navigators in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Pizzano drew 23 walks, struck out just 15 times and carried a .422 on-base percentage.  He belted 13 doubles and two triples and played an errorless outfield.  Pizzano also was named the league's most improved player after the season.
