NEW YORK - Columbia's Jon Eisen, the 2012 Ivy League Blair Bat winner, will continue his baseball career in Germany with the Bad Homburg Hornets in the southern division of the German Baseball Bundesliga.

Eisen joined the Hornets after their season began on March 31. In a doubleheader on Sunday, May 20, Eisen went 1-for-3 with a run scored in game one and had a single in four at-bats in game two.

"It'll be an awesome experience," Eisen said. "The league has a bunch of ex-minor leaguers and will have alot of good competition."

Eisen's signing in Germany comes after an outstanding senior season. The Nashville, Tenn. native hit .446 during the Ivy League season and reached base at a .534 clip. He hit safely in 17 of 20 Ivy games and carried an 18-game hit streak during the season, the longest among Ivy League players in 2012. For the season, Eisen batted .360 with 37 runs scored and a team-high 13 stolen bases.

“I'm excited Jon got an excellent opportunity to play in a high level league in Germany," head coach Brett Boretti said. "Jon has always been an overachiever and I expect him to work as hard as he can to continue to make himself better as he continues to play the game he loves so much.”

The German Baseball Bundesliga season runs until July 1.
