NEW YORK - Nine newcomers will join the Columbia baseball team for the upcoming season, head coach Brett Boretti recently announced.

The group includes six pitchers who will bolster the Lions' staff from the right and left side. A catcher and two other position players round out the group, which hails from seven different states.

Logan Boyher - C - R/R - 5-10 - 185 - Chesterfield, Mo. - Parkway Central
Head coach Brett Boretti on Boyher: "Logan is a very strong athlete at catcher. He swings the bat very well and has excellent leadership qualities."

Adam Cline - RHP - L/R - 6-3 - 175 - Redmond, Wash. - Redmond
Boretti: "Adam is a sinker ball pitcher who has good command. Adam has a  very high ceiling."

Thomas Crispi - LHP - L/L - 6-4 - 185 - Needham, Mass. - Roxbury Latin
Boretti: "Thomas is a very projectable southpaw. He also has a very high ceiling."

John Kinne - INF/OF - R/R - 6-0 - 175 - Great Barrington, Mass. - Monument Mountain
Boretti: "John is an athletic player who can play shortstop or center field. He has the ability to bring a lot of speed and versatility to the team."

Nick Maguire - INF - L/L - 6-3 - 225 - Chester, N.J. - West Morris Mendham
Boretti: "Nick brings a big lefty bat who has middle of the line up potential. A solid first baseman, Nick is a vocal leader."

George Martin - LHP - L/L - 6-0 - 170 - El Paso, Texas - Cathedral
Boretti: "George is a smart left-hander that has a very loose arm. George also possesses a very good breaking ball."

Willis Robbins - RHP - R/R - 6-1 - 170 - Rye, N.Y. - Rye
Boretti: "Willis is a hard-throwing, loose right-hander. He has a solid frame to build strength."

Matt Robinson - RHP - R/R - 5-10 - 175 - Orlando, Fla. - Winter Park
Boretti: "Matt throws hard. He has a very good breaking ball."

Kevin Roy - RHP - R/R - 6-0 - 160 - Houston, Texas - Lamar
Boretti: "Kevin is an excellent pitcher and competitor. He has the ability to make an immediate impact on the hill."
