Savage Selected to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team
TUCSON, Ariz. – First-year second baseman Will Savage continues to be recognized for his exceptional play this season, earning a spot on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
The selection to the Freshman All-America Team adds to a list of accolades the Bronx, New York, native has compiled, including Ivy League Rookie of the Year and the Blair Bat Award. Savage led the Lions with a .320 batting average in 43 starts and finished second with 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts. The first-year also drove in 15 runs and knocked eight doubles, one triple and a homer on 49 hits.
In conference play, Savage batted .414 with 29 hits to lead the Ancient Eight. Ever the team player, Savage also laid down a League-leading nine sacrifice bunts.
Savage’s success was mirrored by the team, as the Lions posted a program-record 29 wins, won its 12th Ivy League title and reached the NCAA Division I Baseball Championships for the second straight season.
Savage will continue playing this summer in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League as a part of the Shelter Island Bucks. He is the first Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America selection since Dario Pizzano was named to the team in 2010.
