On Tuesday, senior Mike Mazzullo made history as the first Columbia men's soccer player to be drafted in the MLS. The Toronto FC selected Mazzullo as the fourth pick in the fourth round of the 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft.
"I'm excited for the opportunity in Toronto. I feel like I'm prepared and ready to compete for a spot on the team. It will be fun to represent Columbia," said Mazzullo.
The two time All-Ivy honoree capped his career at Columbia with four goals, five assists, and 13 points including two game winners.
"I think Toronto made a fantastic selection and I am really excited for Mazz," said Kevin Anderson, Head Coach of Columbia Men's Soccer.
"This is a culmination of his talent, hardwork, leadership, focus and never say die attitude as well as a team of players around him that have created a fantastic soccer environment here at Columbia. I'm sure, he has the heart of a lion! I am really proud of all of them and especially Mazz. He has what it takes to take the next step and so his best days are still ahead of him and we are his biggest fans. Lions for life," Anderson said.
