ITHACA, N.Y. – The Columbia men’s soccer team dropped its season finale Saturday night, falling to Cornell, 3-0, at Berman Field.

The Big Red controlled play in the first half, outshooting Columbia 10-3, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. Luke Rossi, making his first start of the season in net for the Lions, turned away five of those attempts, but Cornell would take a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a 23rd minute goal from Vincent Brunetti.

Columbia’s lone shot on net would come from the foot of Bryce Terrill in the 20th minute, but Cornell goalkeeper Zach Zagorski turned it away.

It took just 59 seconds into the second half for Cornell to add to its lead, as Ben Feldman found the back of the net to put the Big Red up 2-0. Sebastian Scales pushed the lead to three for Cornell, registering his first goal of the season.

The Lions challenged Zagorski with four shots on net on the second period, but Columbia was unable to break through with a tally. First-year Joe Morris had a pair of shots stopped in the middle of the half, while classmate Rhys Williams had a scoring chance at the beginning phase of the half and then another in the 88th minute thwarted.

Columbia and Cornell each finish the season with eight wins on the year. For the Lions, it matches a recent program-best set in 2011. Prior to that season, the most wins came in 2003 when Columbia came out victorious in 10 contests.
