NEW YORK - Seniors Seyi Adebayo, Marcorus Garrett, Hamilton Garner and Zach Olinger have been named the 2013 Columbia football captains, Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Pete Mangurian announced Saturday.

“We are very proud of Seyi (Adebayo), Marcorus (Garrett), Hamilton (Garner) and Zach (Olinger).  They each, in their own way, represent what our program is about.  They are respected by their teammates, and are respected by everyone in our program,” Coach Mangurian said.  “To be honest it is difficult to be a team leader if you are not a good player, and we are counting on all four of these players to contribute to our success.  Most importantly, they are good people, who are committed to their teammates.  I am confident that every action they take will be based on what is best for the team.”

Adebayo, returns as a fifth-year defensive lineman, after suffering a season-ending injury in the first quarter of the first game last year. Prior to the injury, Adebayo recorded a sack, two tackles and a pass defend.

Garner, a tight end from Duluth, Ga., has totaled 675 yards receiving in 20 games at Columbia.  In 2011 he was named honorable mention All-Ivy League.

Garrett, a first team All-Ivy League selection in 2012 at running back, totaled the second-most rushing yards in a single season in Columbia Football history with 957.

Olinger was named second team All-Ivy League after leading the Lions and ranking third in the Ivy League with 89 tackles on the season in 2012.

“I will continue to meet with representatives from each class in a weekly meeting, as I did last year, but Seyi, Marcorus, Hamilton and Zach will have a clearly defined and more active role in the day-to-day management of our team,” concluded Coach Mangurian.
