PRINCETON, N.J. – A pair of Columbia football players have been honored with Ivy League weekly honors, as Josh Martin was selected co-Defensive Player of the Week and Chris Connors garnered Rookie of the Week, as announced by the Ivy League office Monday.

Martin was a disruptive force throughout Columbia’s 34-17 win over Cornell Saturday in the Empire State Bowl. Playing his final game at Wien Stadium as a senior, Martin recorded a game-high three sacks. Martin also forced a pivotal fumble with a crushing hit on the Cornell quarterback that Columbia recovered and turned into a touchdown to take the lead in the third quarter.

Martin is the third Columbia player to receive Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year honors. Zach Olinger (Sept. 17) and Mike Waller (Oct. 29) both earned the award earlier this season.

Connors is the first Lion to be recognized as Ivy League Rookie of the Week after grabbing six balls for 84 yards and a couple of touchdowns. The first-year from North Olmsted, Ohio opened the scoring Saturday with an eight-yard touchdown reception just over five minutes into the first quarter. Connors second score was well earned after he laid out to reel in a 27-yard pass from Sean Brackett to give Columbia its 34-17 advantage.

Columbia will wrap up its 2012 season this Saturday when it heads to Brown for a 12:30 p.m. matchup with the Bears.
