HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth used a strong ground attack to defeat Columbia 56-0 in Hanover, N.H. Saturday afternoon. Vinny Pugliese led the Lions with 10 tackles and a sack, while Nick Melka added nine tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss.
Jon Marc Carrier got Dartmouth on the board with a two-yard touchdown run at 9:27 in the first quarter. Both teams put together drives that stalled late, and Dartmouth ended the first quarter with the ball from their own 43. Dartmouth converted that drive with a 17-yard pass from Dalyn Williams to Carrier with 13:37 in the second to make it 14-0.
The Big Green went on to score twice more in the second quarter, once off an interception, to take a 28-0 lead into the half.
Columbia could not get going on offense with a three and out drive in thier first possession of the third quarter. Dartmouth put two touchdowns on the board to make it 42-0, one on a 44-yard pass from Kyle Bramble to Alex Park.
Dartmouth scored twice in the fourth for the final 56-0 margin.
Dominick Pierre led Dartmouth with 160 yard rushing. Williams finished 11-18-0 with 149 yards passing and one touchdown.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Yale for a noon game on the YES Network.
