NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale rushed for nearly 300 yards to defeat Columbia 53-12 at the Class of 1954 Field at the Yale Bowl.
Kyle Cazzetta booted a 46-yard field goal at 7:23 in the first quarter to get Yale on the board with a 3-0 lead. After a stalled Lions' drive, Yale got the ball with 5:19 left in the first quarter and drove 62 yards on 10 plays for a 10-yard touchdown run by Candler Rich to give the Elis a 10-0 lead.
On Yale's first drive of the second quarter, Brian East picked off Yale's QB Henry Furman for a 27-yard interception return touchdown. A missed PAT left the score at 10-6.
Yale drove 82 yards in 10 plays on the ensuing drive which resulted in a 26-yard touchdown catch by Deon Randall to make it 17-6 Yale.
Yale scored the next 37 points before Trevor McDonagh found Ryan Flannery in the back of the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown pass with four minutes left in the fourth quarter for the final 53-12 margin.
The Lions finished with 18 first downs to Yale's 26. Yale rushed for 294 yards to Columbia's 28. Columbia finished with 218 yards passing to 275 yards for Yale.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, November 9, when they host Harvard at 12:30 p.m.
