NEW YORK - The Columbia University football team was able to spread a little holiday joy before final exams were over. Throughout the fall semester, the team collected donations for the Toys for Tots program in conjunction with the St. Francis Youth Center. Recently, a few members of the team were able to make the trip to the Center see their contributions first-hand.
The student-athletes gave donations individually and as a team, collected donantions at games and other venues near Columbia University.
All of the money collected, a total of $970, was used to buy toys for the children at St. Francis Youth Center in the South Bronx. Four members of the football team accompanied Father Valenti, the Director of Community Outreach, to deliver the toys and attend the St. Francis Youth Center's annual Christmas party.
The team plans to participate in this program for years to come.
