NEW YORK - Columbia football senior co-captain Bob Hauschildt gained a place on the Capital One Academic All-America second team, it was announced on Thursday.

It is the second straight year that a Columbia football player was named an Academic All-America. Former defensive back Adam Mehrer earned the award in 2010.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was chosen as the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year.

Earlier this season, Hauschildt was named to the Academic All-District first team and was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, the nation's top football scholar-athlete award.

A stalwart at center during the 2011 season, Hauschildt was a two-year starter on the Lions' offensive line and was chosen as one of four captains prior to the start of the 2011 campaign.

Hauschildt currently sports a 3.83 grade point average and is on track to graduate from Columbia College in May 2012 with a bachelor's degree in economics and political science.
