Coach Mangurian’s Spring Prospectus
Our “Spring Prospectus” this year takes shape in a web-centric format. Unlike traditional printed prospectus reports – you can find out Coach Mangurian’s thoughts about the current team embedded in each player biography on the gocolumbialions.com website. Click on each individual player biography in the roster to read more.

We will release a full, traditional style, off-season prospectus/training camp preview at the conclusion of Spring Football, at the final practice of the academic year, on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Overall Spring Outlook
We are moving forward with the installation of our system. Our players will learn faster and will be able to concentrate more on “how to do” and less on “what to do.”

There is no shortcut for this process. The system is built to adapt and evolve.  The learning curve is steep, but once you learn to use it, you’ve got it.

We will work on technique in all phases. Getting off the ball faster with better leverage and explosion, and proper use of hands and footwork. We will work on our collective football IQ, recognition and adjustments. We will work on situational awareness and execution. Most importantly we will work on working together, understanding and playing to our help.

Our emphasis will still be increasing the strength and power of our linemen on both sides of the ball. We will continue to develop explosive quickness and power. The skill positions will focus on the passing game.

This spring will follow the format of an NFL passing camp with pads. Fortunately for us, we are not subject to the restrictions of the new NFL collective bargaining agreement, and can still get real work with the front seven on the running and passing games. The line will spend the second half of practice incorporating technique work, position-specific movement and strength development. Our goal is to improve every phase of our team. This includes practicing at maximum efficiency while staying healthy.

Spring practice is the opportunity for our veterans to show what they can do. We will rotate match-ups in order to make fair and thorough evaluations. Our players know that this is competitive; they are prepared to compete, both mentally and physically. This is very different from last year. We will bring 87 to training camp in the summer, approximately 40 offense, 40 defense and 7 specialists. Every competitive snap will be evaluated.

I have listed our five major goals for each phase of our team, entering spring practice. There are always more things that we can improve, but this is a continual process. I am confident that we are in the physical condition to make the most of each practice opportunity. While spring practice is important, summer and training camp still loom very large in our development.
