PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia guard Meiko Lyles was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Lyles capped his season with a flourish, scoring a career-best 16 points in the Lions' 91-74 win over Brown at Levien Gymnasium on Saturday night.
Against Brown, Lyles made seven of 12 field goals, including a pair of three-pointers. He pulled down a career-best eight rebounds in the winning effort and added a blocked shot and a steal for good measure.
A night earlier against Yale, he shot 50 percent from the field at 60 percent from beyond the arc, scoring 14 points in the Lions’ double-overtime setback. Lyles also had a pair of steals in that game.
Lyles scored in double figures five times during Ivy League play and started the last five games of the season for Columbia. He finished the Ivy League slate averaging 6.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game during league action.
Junior guard Noruwa Agho gained a spot on the Ivy League's weekly honor roll after his fantastic final weekend. Agho averaged 25.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game against Yale and Brown and exploded for a career-best 31 points in the 91-74 win over the Bears on Saturday.
Agho played one of the best halves of basketball in Columbia history, scoring 24 points on 10 of 11 shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes of the game, helping the Lions to a 51-31 lead at halftime. He finished 12 of 18 from the field and made four of six from three-point range. The 6-3 Agho grabbed seven rebounds, had two assists and a steal to add to the all-around spectacular effort.
Columbia finished the regular season with a 15-13 record and a 6-8 mark in the Ivy League.
