NEW YORK – The Columbia men’s basketball team used a 17-4 run in the second half to come away with a 69-59 victory over Dartmouth on Friday night. Sophomore Maodo Lo scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead the Lions (15-10, 4-4).

The first half was just another see-saw Ivy League battle with the lead changing hands 10 times. Alex Mitola hit big shot after big shot in the first half, helping the Big Green (9-13, 2-6) take a four point lead on two occasions.

However, Columbia finished the half strong and a heads up play by Jeff Coby in the final minute gave the Lions a 31-30 lead at the break. Coby missed a free throw, but Dartmouth could not handle the rebound and the ball wound up in the first-year’s hands, leading to an easy two.

After the intermission, Cory Osetkowski was the catalyst to help Columbia take over.

The 6-10 junior banged home a trifecta from the left wing to put the Lions on top, 39-34, at the 17:30 mark and later dished out to a wide open Steve Frankoski to give Columbia a 10-point cushion with 11:57 on the clock. On the next possession, Osetkowski came up with a steal and eventually pitched a perfect slip pass to a cutting Isaac Cohen to cap the spurt and put the Lions ahead, 50-38.

With 6:43 remaining, the Big Green’s Connor Boehm cut the deficit to 51-45 with a layup before Columbia put the game away for good.

Lo drained a short jumper followed by a pair of free throws from Alex Rosenberg to extend the margin back to 10 with 4:17 left and the Lions went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in the final minutes to ice the game.

Rosenberg finished with 19 points on 14-of-15 shooting from the foul line. Osetkowski pitched in eight points, six boards and three blocks.

Boehm led Dartmouth with 15 points. After the hot first half, Mitola was hounded by Lo in the final frame and shot just 1-of-4 from the field the rest of the way.

The Lions return to action on Friday, Feb. 21 when Brown visits Levien Gymnasium. Tickets are available by clicking here and the game can be seen on the Ivy League Digital Network.
