NEW YORK - Senior swimmer Katie Meili and senior basketball player Brian Barbour have been named Columbia Student-Athletes of the Month for December.

Meili posted a pair of wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events to lead Columbia to its first dual-meet win of the season at Penn on Dec. 7. She posted a time of 1:05.98 in the 100-yard race, and clocked in at 2:22.30 in the 200. She leads the team with nine individual wins on the season and remains undefeated in the 100 breast in Ivy League competitions.

Barbour averaged team-highs of 15.3 points and 6.0 assists in four games in December. On Dec. 9 at American, he became just the 25th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. After posting back-to-back 19 point games against Bucknell and American, Barbour dished out a career-best 12 assists against Elon on Dec. 22. He closed the month with a 14-point, six-assist outing against Manhattan to lift the Lions to victory.

In addition, Barbour was selected as one of 80 candidates for the Bob Cousy Award, given out annually to the nation's top point guard.
