Join Columbia Women's Basketball in the fight against breast cancer! The Lions will take on Penn, Saturday, February 18 at 7 p.m., at Play 4Kay night in Levien Gymnasium.
Play 4Kay, formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone, is an initiative that allows a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for Play 4Kay after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009.
Since 2006, women's basketball teams across the country have joined together in the fight against breast cancer. Over $1.5 million has been raised for the cause through this promotion. Columbia women's basketball has participated in this Play 4Kay since the 2007-08 season and has raised $17,356 for breast cancer research.
On this special night, half of all ticket revenue will be donated to the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Columbia University Medical Center for breast cancer research. Donations will be collected at the game as well, with Fairway Market matching all donations made at the door.
