Columbia also played its home opener on Sept. 8 against a tough Monmouth squad. The Lions fell to the unbeaten Hawks, 2-0.
“We lost to a good Monmouth team that played their game at a better level than we played ours today, and that’s a lesson learned on the day about sticking to our principles and style of play, “ said Columbia women’s soccer head coach Kevin McCarthy.
“When we are five games into the season as they (Monmouth) are I expect that we will have that down to a higher level.”
MELO STRIKES FIRST: Natalie Melo has put together a solid start to her junior season. Behind a three-point scoring weekend, including the game-winning score at Manhattan, Melo was named to the first Ivy League Weekly Performance Honor Roll of the 2013 season.
