Women's Soccer Release - Week 6
PRINCETON, N.J. – First-year goalkeeper Allison Spencer was named co-Ivy League Rookie of the Week after not giving up a goal in 110 minutes of play in a 0-0 draw against Brown over the weekend.
In her first conference start, Spencer tallied four saves in the Lion’s Ivy League home-opener on Saturday night. The Salt Lake City native, has posted 14 saves in 335 minutes of play this season and holds a save percentage of .875.
For the second time this season, senior defender Shannon FitzPatrick made the Weekly Honor Roll. The Columbia defense worked as a collective unit in Saturday night’s shutout draw and Fitzpatrick showed remarkable senior leadership in the double overtime match.
Up next, the Lions (5-3-2) will return to Columbia Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to host New Jersey Institute of Technology (4-8) at 7 p.m.
Tuesday night’s contest against NJIT is part of Athlete Ally Week, a weeklong collaboration between the Office of Multicultural Affairs - LGBTQA Programming and Columbia Athletics to raise awareness about the impact of homophobia in sports and the importance of creating inclusive campus communities and allyship.
“Our team is really happy that we are one of the athletic events during Athlete Ally Week. The values of having an inclusive group of people work together, play together and sacrifice for each other are inherent in our program and for us it makes a lot of sense that we are involved in it, “ said Head Coach Kevin McCarthy.
