NEW YORK -- Senior defender Lauren Cooke and junior forward Ashlin Yahr were each named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, it was announced recently. Cooke was a second-team selection while Yahr earned third-team status.
The Lions were one of three Ivy League schools to have a pair of players pick up all-region accolades -- Harvard and Penn each had two representatives, while Princeton had one.
A consistent force on the pitch throughout her time with the Lions, Cooke was a second team All-Ivy League selection in 2010. The center back, who was an honorable mention recipient in 2008, flourished in Columbia's new three-back formation this season and again led the team with 1,605 minutes played.
Yahr led the Lions with seven goals in 2010, including four during Ivy play. She had three game-winners on the year including the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Cornell on Sept 24 and both scores in a 2-1 win over eventual Ivy champ Penn on Oct. 8. Her dynamic play at forward throughout her career has helped move her into fourth on Columbia's all-time goals scored list with 25, one behind former teammate Sophie Reiser.
