NEW YORK - Columbia head women's soccer coach Kevin McCarthy has announced the recruiting class of five student-athletes to join the team as the class of 2016.
"This class is small and exclusive. We have a strong returning group and we looked to bring in only a few special players to the program. We are fortunate to have these women in our program," McCarthy said.
"While they were all strong leaders in their club and high school programs, they add a variety of talents in all areas of the field for Columbia University Women's Soccer. They also all shared a strong desire to be at Columbia University, in New York City and a part of the Columbia women's soccer program."
Joining the Lions are:
Emma Blackwood - Austin, Texas - Westlake
McCarthy on Blackwood: "Emma is a dynamic defender, highly skilled at closing players down and transitioning quickly into attack. She is very strong in empowering players around her."
Gabby Dubick - Goalkeeper - La Jolla, Calif. - La Jolla
McCarthy: "Gabby is an upbeat and energetic presence on and off the field. She will add quality depth to a young goalkeeping corps."
Addie Jensen - Ramsey, N.J. - Ramsey
McCarthy on Addie: "She is a lethal finisher. A strong shot with either foot and a force in the attacking third of the pitch."
Elly McGuffog - Fishers, Ind. - Hamilton Southeastern
McCarthy on Elly: "Elly is a very good two-way player; an intelligent, athletic and technically solid midfielder."
- Scottsdale, Ariz. - Notre Dame Prepatory
McCarthy on Cadie: "Cadie is vocal, brave and a physical defender. She also combines strong long range passing skills with the ability to play simple, effective balls out of the defense."
