PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second week this season, first-year goalkeeper Allison Spencer has earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the conference on Monday, Oct. 21.
In a tough Ivy League battle at Princeton on Oct. 19, Spencer tallied nine saves in a game that ended in a 3-3 draw. The Salt Lake City native anchored a defense that held the Tigers scoreless through 65 minutes of play after the first half. The Lions denied five Princeton shots in the second overtime, including a clutch save in the closing three minutes by Spencer, to finish with the 3-3 draw.
Spencer is also joined by seniors Beverly Leon and Natalie Melo who earned weekly conference honors. For the second game this season, Melo answered with a game-winning goal in the second overtime to lift Columbia to a 3-2 win over Lafayette on Oct. 15. She had a big day on the pitch with two goals and an assist.
After tallying an assist in the Lions win over Lafayette, Leon sparked the Columbia offense in the Princeton match. She led the way with two goals, including the game-tying score off a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
Up next, the Lions (7-4-3, 0-2-2) will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4:30 p.m. to face Dartmouth on the road.
