MALIBU, Calif. - The Columbia women's soccer team faced Pepperdine in its first road match of the season on Friday, Sept. 1. Led by a goal in each period by Pepperdine's Devyn Gilfoy, the Lions were handed a 2-0 defeat.
Pepperdine struck first with an early goal in the opening 10 minutes to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions' offensive aggression was on continuous display in the period as they fired six shots towards the net, led by two from both Natalie Neshat and Emma Anderson. The Wave defense remained solid with three saves to maintain a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Wave responded with heightened offensive pressure of their own with a 13-3 shots advantage in the period. Devyn Gilfoy scored her second Pepperdine goal in the 84th minute to hand Columbia a 2-0 defeat.
Up next, Columbia (1-1-1) will face Loyola Marymount on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. to conclude its West Coast road swing.
