LOS ANGELES - The Columbia women's soccer team took on Loyola Marymount in its final match of the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 3 to wrap its west coast road swing. The battle of the Lions went to the home team, using a two-goal second half to defeat Columbia 2-0.

 A defensive battle was the story of the first period with both teams going scoreless. Columbia’s Sophie Whitehouse led the Lions with five of her game-high eight saves in the opening half to deny a 9-2 shot advantage by Loyola Marymount.

 In the 64th minute, LMU found the back of the net for the first score of the afternoon and to take a 1-0 lead. LMU held Columbia to just two shots in the second half as the Lions fought to even the score. In the closing seconds, LMU put in another score to down the Lions 2-0.

 Up next, Columbia (1-2-1) returns to Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium for a two-game home stand. On Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. Columbia will host Stony Brook, followed by Sunday, Sept. 10 match against Sacred Heart at 1 p.m.
