NEW YORK - Six incoming first-years will join the Columbia softball program for the upcoming season, head coach Kayla Noonan announced recently. The group includes three position players and three pitchers from the softball hotbeds of Florida, Texas and the west coast.

"We couldn’t be happier with this group of young women," Noonan said. "They are motivated, dedicated, and ready to go to work. Their talent on the field and passion for their academic pursuits will make them great teammates and incredible representatives of Columbia."

Nicole Borchard - INF - R/R - Pleasanton, Calif. - Amador Valley
Noonan: "Nicole is a true utility player who can play all over the infield. Her high school team finished in the top 25 in the country and we look for that experience to help us on the field."

Emily Kenyon - P - R/R - Monmouth, Ore. - Independence
Noonan: "Emily just finished an incredible high school season and was named Oregon's class 4A pitcher of the year. She has great size and an incredible work ethic. We think Emily will be an immediate asset to our pitching staff."

Tessa Kroll - P - L/R - Elmhurst, Ill. - York
Noonan: "Tessa is another pitcher who comes to Columbia ready to compete in the circle. Tessa also has great size and excellent control of her pitches. She has a strong mound presence and lets her defense make plays behind her."

Summer Secrest - P - R/R - San Clemente, Calif. - San Clemente
Noonan: "Summer is a smart hurler who is the perfect complement to the other pitchers on our staff.  She has lots of upside and has dueled with some of the best hitters in the country while pitching for her travel team, Pure Fastpitch.

Macy Shrum - INF/OF - R/R - La Porte, Texas - Deer Park
Noonan: "Macy comes to Columbia from the same high school as [current sophomore] Kalli Schultea.  Macy can play the infield or the outfield and wields a big bat that will bring immediate offensive production to the middle of our lineup."

Alyssa Swearingen - OF - L/R - Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. - Suncoast
Noonan: "Alyssa is a smart, speedy outfielder from Florida who has several tools in her arsenal at the plate.  She can bunt, slap, or hit for power from the left side and plays with passion and enthusiasm.
