Unger Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – First-year Shelby Unger was named Ivy League softball Rookie of the Week after helping Columbia post the program’s first 4-0 Ancient Eight start ever.

Unger hit .545 with a home run and five RBI, starting all four games in centerfield for the Lions. The Yorba Linda, Calif., product started her Ivy League career with a clutch solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie game one against Brown on Mar. 28, sparking a rally to lift Columbia to a win. She followed up with a 2-for-3 outing in game two, including a two-run double in the first inning.

To close the weekend, Unger knocked in three runs in an 8-0 romp of Yale to extend her hitting streak to six games.

Dartmouth’s Morgan McCalmon earned Player of the Week accolades, while Kristen Rumley, also of the Big Green was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week.

The Lions are back in action this afternoon for a twinbill against Manhattan at the Baker Athletics Complex. First pitch of game one is slated for 3 p.m.
