Softball Hosts Princeton to Begin Ivy League Divisional Play

LIVE STATS

NEW YORK – Divisional play commences this weekend for the Columbia softball team, who will welcome Princeton to the Baker Athletics Complex for a four-game series from Sat.-Sun., Apr. 12-13. Both days will feature doubleheaders slated for 12:30 p.m. starts.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA
The Lions have dropped six of their last seven after posting a program-record 10-game winning streak in March. Most recently, Columbia earned a split with Stony Brook in non-conference action, earning a 1-0 win in game one before a 5-0 defeat in the nightcap.

SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers stand at 11-18 overall and 3-3 in Ivy League play, but are 6-1 thus far in April after a 9-7 win over Rutgers on Thursday. Princeton won three of four on the road against Yale and Brown last weekend, splitting with the Bulldogs on Saturday and sweeping the Bears on Sunday.

Offensively, Princeton is hitting just .223 as a squad. Maddie Cousins leads the team with a .323 batting average and two home runs. Alyssa Schmidt is the Tigers’ top run-producer with 11 RBI.

Princeton boasts a balanced pitching staff with a team ERA of 3.74. Erica Nori checks in with a 5-5 record, 1.99 ERA and 34 strikeouts. Shanna Christian has team-high 12 starts under her belt and is 4-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 39 K’s.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP
Princeton leads the all-time series with the Lions 28-12 and went 3-1 at the Class of 1895 field last season. Columbia earned a split in 2012 and won 3-of-4 in the four-game set in 2011.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Columbia’s softball team has followed a cue from its basketball team, putting together dominant performances at home this year. The Lions are 13-2 at the Baker Athletics Complex and outscoring their opponents 86-43.
